Wir müssen jetzt endlich energisch und ausdauernd aktiv werden, um unsere legitimen und zukunftsweisenden Forderungen auch wirklich durchzusetzen!

Dabei sollte sich die deutsche und österreichische Bewegung so weit wie möglich vereinen, denke ich…

Hierarchy is a specific network case where both the links between nodes and transactions across those links are fixed after some sort of negotiation (e.g. job interviews, or founding meetings of associations).

Looking at it that way means 2 things to me
1) there is a ‘emergent growth’ path possible from undefined network states (links have unfixed character, transactions can be anything) to more defined network states (communities as mushrooms on the network mycelium), to fully defined static network states (hierarchy) and vice versa. So I think we will see fluid transformation from one form to the other and back much more in the future.

2) hierarchies become tools / temporary constructs that can be erected and done away by people according to their usefulness. Appointing a chairman in a meeting for just that meeting, re-organizing a company etc, or simply by dropping the structure and trusting the other connections will keep the underlying network alive (as in the mentioned slide 12). It does not take a revolution anymore, just as it doesn’t take a revolution to drop a hammer and pick up a screw driver.

The issue is merely that we’ve come to believe that ‘organizing hierarchies’ is the only way one can organize effectively in any situation. That it always takes an ‘organization’ to do things. Newspapers, the music industry, political parties, and now established student bodies are finding out the hard way that is not true. The initial cost of organizing has dropped to zero.

Hierarchies aren’t evil, networks aren’t chaotic. They’re both incarnations of the same structures in the semi-ordered/chaordic domain that is human life.

weils in der öh aber viele instituts- und basisgruppen gibt, haben sich auch die nach den vorbildern der klassischen parteien strukturierten fraktionen in der öh an ein gewisses mass an basisdemokratie gewöhnt. auch wenns manchen schwer fällt, sie können inzwischen damit umgehen. ich find die performance der öh im jetzigen streik sehr gut.
