nokia will soon ship their series 90 phones with anti-virus software pre-installed. so far only windows-CE-powered smartphones have been affected. while this might sound like bad news (annoyances such as spam, viruses and tojans going mobile) i really think this is great news!

it’s simple: viruses being no issue in the mobile space only means that devices and communication standards aren’t advanced enough yet. when viuses can begin to go mobile, also a bunch of innovative and useful software will. cool.

Eventually, operators should catch this opportunity and provide virus software plus regular over-the-air (OTA) updates, gaining additional income and raising ARPU. Even better, they should offer services at the server level for virus protection.
